Augmented reality in the education field
When we talk about augmented reality, we don’t just talk about a new technology. We are talking about:
- A paradigm shift.
- Changes in the social system.
- New ways of doing things.
- Changes in the behavior of people.
And today, without further delay, we are going to talk about changes in education.
As many of you will know, the educational system has been subject to reforms and plans to promote shared and universal knowledge. In fact, the European Union has the focus on education as the main engine of sustainable growth of the long-term economy.
However, as society progresses incessantly adapting to the new consumption behaviors of the 21st century, education goes a step behind. And to understand it, you only need to make a small retrospective:
If we compare the city of the 80s and the city of today you will see that the changes are significant. The same goes for technology, which thanks to the law of moore evolves exponentially from year to year. Companies follow the same behavior, buildings, supermarkets, housing, etc.
But… what happens when we compare the school of the 80’s with the schools of today?
The structure is the same, the learning systems follow the same pattern and we have not yet found a solution to adapt it to the present.
In fact, companies have already noticed, and the value of university degrees tends to be devalued more and more. Large media such as CNBC have already warned of this phenomenon.
But then .. What is the solution to these events?
Honestly, nobody has an answer, but nevertheless, there are new tools to address the problem and one of the most important is … the augmented reality.
Benefits of using augmented reality in education
While books and documents rarely allow interaction with students, augmented reality does it outstanding. You just need to observe any class with students between 16 and 25 years old: Students tend to be more attentive to the mobile and social networks than to books and powerpoints with educational material.
But what happens when we make them interact with their mobile device?
Kahoot has already done so and the truth is that the results are incredible.
With augmented reality, students can unlock new contents in audio format, text, image, video, etc. and interact with them!
In addition, augmented reality offers gamified experiences such as creating interactive games to know the human body, visualize real representations of historical moments and answer questionnaires about them … and even create their own worlds!
We have always tried to prohibit the mobile phone in the classroom as the main problem, but in fact it isn´t the problem, it´s the solution!
The augmented reality allows teachers to monitor their students, see which are the most consumed and least liked contents, control the connection time of each user, etc. So you see, the opportunities offered by this technology are very high! And if I tell you that it is very affordable?
Nowadays the prices of augmented reality products and services have been reduced a lot compared to previous years. You are in the best time to use it!
